About One year and half ago….I finish my medical internship earlier than most of my friends and didn’t know what to do in six months. My cousin’s boyfriend worked at medical publishing company and printing service. After the interviewed and test, I accepted as Medical Editor in that company. So, one week after I was accepted, I became a clerk and worked in front of the computer at office hours time. I left my hospital and clinic time for a while. In the past, I seldom read book, but now I must read one book carefully with deadline. Initially, I confuse d about Indonesian grammar. My Tutor said that my English is better that my Indonesian. Why? Because I presumed some wellknown verb and grammar are right, but in a matter of fact there were wrong example : Which one is right “Mempesona” or “Memesona”? “Mempengaruhi” or “Memengaruhi” ? “Praktik” or “Praktek”?, “Risiko” or “Resiko”? Hmm.. the right words are Memesona, Memengaruhi, Praktik and “Risiko”. Another example : we usually use “dimana” as “relation word” but in fact , it is wrong because “Dimana” is a question word. In Medical education, we just study Indonesian language only for 2 skp ( Out of 160 skp), so no wonder that our Indonesia language knowledge especially the grammar and vocabulary is standart ( Although, we study Indonesia languange for 12 years in elementary, junior and senior high school, but we study only one times a week in six months at Medical school ). Hmm.. I think full time medical editor is a boring job. As a doctor, everyday you meet and talk with a lot of people. You do the anamnesis with the patient ( history taking), do the physical examination and after that suggest the supportive examination, decide the diagnosis and give the therapy and treatment. It's not only read the theory, but also practice the knowlegde. After 8 months, I resigned from that job. Now, Iam a doctor at Public Health Centre and I was offered a job as Freelance Medical Editor by The boss of my old company. I accept the project. Every afternoon or evening while I relax at my bedroom, I do this job. I think freelance medical editor is more pleasure and comfortable than full time editor. You can practice your knowledge at the public health center/hospital and in the evening, you read the theory and increase your medical knowledge, too. ( And you get pay from this pleasure). :)
